Recently an early morning news/talk show interviewed a lady about forgiveness. She related a story that I had heard more than once about a teenager who had thrown a frozen turkey and it had hit the windshield of a lady's car and she ended up in pretty serious condition. Later as the story goes, she chose to forgive this young man. The talk show interviewee stated that we should not always forgive quickly. Nor should we forgive everyone. Even though the "Religious" teaching tell us that we should.
If you strip away all the "religious" teachings on forgiveness and just look at the factors of what happens when one forgives. Even the medical journals indicates one holds grudges, stays angry, suppresses all those hard feelings towards others, it causes the body to become sick, everything from mental depression, to health problems such as cancer and arthritis.
So my questions is this. If unforgiveness causes you to be sick, have mental problems, as the list goes on and on, why are we not making "forgiveness" a high priority on our list? Hello! Why would we want to cause ourselves to be sick? This is not just a "religious" matter it is a piratical everyday matter. Make the right choice - FORGIVE OTHERS, FORGIVE YOURSELF!
Give yourself a free gift today - give others a free gift. Forgive. Take a deep breath and look at life in a whole new set of eyes. The eyes of forgiveness.
From a personal standpoint, I struggle even today about the forgiveness factor. You want to hold those feelings of what someone did or didn't do, what they said or didn't say. You know the only one getting all wound up inside was me. The one it was effecting was me.
How sad for the lady on the news how. She will never really be set free until she freely forgives. Should you forgive everyone? Yes. Even those who have done really "bad" things? Yes. Forgiveness is just one of the platforms in how we should live.
Forgive - It's the right thing to do for YOU!!!
